New Southwest Community Campus Middle/High School

When Grand Rapids Public Schools purchased the 1.7-acre property in January 2019 from Habitat for Humanity, the district kickstarted a project focused on making a community-friendly environment in a low-income neighborhood.

Funded by the district’s successful bond program, the all-new 75,000 SF facility features a dining area, kitchen, and gym with locker rooms on the first floor; science, art, and music rooms and administrative offices on the second floor; and 24 classrooms on the third and fourth floors. After hours, the gym and kitchen will remain open for community use while the rest of the facility is locked down.

The LEED Silver-certified building opens views to downtown Grand Rapids with storefront-style windows in the third floor. The surrounding site has received new stormwater control services, traffic flow upgrades, and pedestrian safety features.
