Coopersville Area
District Library

Addition

Coopersville, Michigan

The Coopersville Area District Library honors access to information in all its forms with this latest addition.
The project more than doubled the size of the existing building and added space for café vending, Maker Space technology, community rooms, a kitchenette, and a lobby gallery to display local art. The extra room also allowed for an expanded children’s area, complete with new storage closets, an additional sink, and cabinets to supplement children’s story time programming.
To increase usable interior space, a former porch along Ottawa Street was converted into the new genealogy space, meeting rooms, the director’s office, and an east entry vestibule. The west porch was converted to a restroom and wheelchair-accessible entry vestibule.

On top of the addition, the entire existing library was remodeled and refinished for a seamless transition from old space to new space. The teen collection has its own dedicated area with glass walls for easy monitoring by staff. Lower shelving units in the adult sections open up viewlines to increase patron comfort and enjoyment.
