Lansing School District

Pattengill Biotechnical Magnet School

Lansing, Michigan

Lansing School District is redefining the educational options delivered to its diverse student body. Among changes, the school district is creating several pathways with coursework to encourage and excite young students about future internship, college, and career choices.

C2AE worked with the district to transform the outdated Fairview Elementary facility into Pattengill Biotechnical Magnet School grades PK-6. The completely renovated facility now includes classrooms and large project labs to support STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) skill development. The labs are flexible and technology rich for hands-on learning and optimal student engagement. Designed for dynamic, intensive, project-based group learning activities, these labs are equipped to host area biotechnology businesses as they partner with students to complete projects.

The facility now holds triple the student enrollment. C2AE designed a front entry that opens directly into a security vestibule and welcome center to ensure student safety and create a sense of identity for the school. The bus and parent drop off loops have been separated and expanded to safely accommodate the larger student population.
