Lansing School District
New Mt. Hope Elementary School
Lansing, MI
The Lansing School District embarked on an ambitious project to redevelop Mt. Hope Elementary School, emphasizing a nature-centered design. This initiative involved the complete demolition of existing buildings and site features, paving the way for a modern educational facility that serves grades 4 through 8, with three sections for each grade, ensuring a modern learning environment that can adapt to future program changes.
The new design incorporates wood elements throughout the space, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Each classroom features exposed ceilings with color-coded equipment, allowing students to engage with and learn about building systems firsthand. The primary color scheme consists of light gray with vibrant accents on lockers and doorways, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the school.
The project also focused on improving the safety and efficiency of student drop-off and pick-up procedures for both cars and buses, to help foster a secure environment for families. Each classroom includes a cozy wood-clad reading nook, and the flooring primarily consists of polished concrete or woven carpet, with hard flooring in the cafeteria, music, and science rooms for easy cleanability. Additionally, the facility supports the current STEM pathway, providing a cutting-edge educational experience that prepares students for the future. C2AE collaborated with Stantec to complete this project.
