Lansing School District
Eastern High School Renovation
Lansing, MI
Summer classes at the old Eastern High School building, built in 1928, were sweltering without air conditioning. C2AE worked with the district to improve to a replacement building in 2019, bringing students into a bigger, better, and much cooler learning environment.
C2AE facilitated the transformation of a former middle school into the new Eastern High School. Updates promote the school’s international baccalaureate and biotechnology programs. The capacity in the cafeteria, the office for student services, and the community clinic all expanded within the new space to suit current student enrollment.
The project also brought with it entirely new building additions: an auxiliary gym and fitness room as well as a new science wing to support the biotechnology program. The third addition houses the EMT program and the student clinic, which the school operates in conjunction with the local health department.
Elements from the historic original high school—such as select light fixtures and memorial pavers—were thoughtfully integrated into the new space to preserve Eastern High School’s long heritage. Robust internet and air conditioning, however, are welcome changes from the past.
