Ferris Coffee & Nut

Production and Warehousing Relocation

Grand Rapids, Michigan

Affectionately nicknamed “Furniture City,” Grand Rapids has deep roots in furniture manufacturing. On the West Side, some of the old factories still stand. One such space is the American Seating building, which was recently acquired by another Grand Rapids great: Ferris Coffee & Nut.

The gourmet roaster values its century-long presence on the West Side. With this purchase, Ferris consolidated multiple production and warehousing operations into a single space on the West Side—one that is three times the size of any previous facility. C2AE designed the adaptive reuse of the 165,000 SF building. Previously a former durable goods plant, this space is now a tightly regulated food-grade production facility. The project streamlined company production, increased the operation's sustainability and space use, and opened more workshops and educational opportunities to the community.
