River Trail Bridge Repair & Renovation

Lansing, Michigan

The City of Lansing has long trusted C2AE for services along the Lansing River Trail. In 2019, the city selected C2AE for the rehabilitation of five trail bridges and the replacement of a sixth. Funding for this $3.9 million project came from an Ingham County trails and parks millage.

A unique aspect of this project centered around bridge 18. Discussions with Lansing shifted the construction plan to accommodate fluctuating water levels on the Red Cedar River. Instead of barges, a causeway was temporarily erected to serve as a work platform. This revised method was permitted from the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE). The general contractor ultimately praised the simplicity and clarity of this bridge’s design.

A creative construction plan was also key for the replacement of a deteriorated trail bridge truss span near Caesar Chavez Avenue. C2AE worked with the city to develop a concept that used barges and cranes to replace the existing span.
