LANSING, MI—September 27, 2011—C2AE, the architectural and engineering firm responsible for the design of the interior renovations of the Inpatient Mental Health Clinic at the Ann Arbor Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center is pleased to announce the project has received an AIA Grand Valley award.
Presented during the 2011 AIA Grand Valley Honor Awards Program on Saturday, September 24, C2AE representatives celebrated and accepted the Honorable Mention Award for the Interior Architecture category.
“Receiving this award is especially exciting for the firm – it’s the first one we’ve received for a healthcare project, since expanding into the market in 2007. Our design team does very good work; this award gives them the recognition they deserve for the hard work and effort they put into every project”, stated C2AE President & CEO, Bill Kimble.
The mental health clinic space consisted of 18,000 square feet of interior renovations of an existing area into a 19-bed inpatient unit, including adjacent outpatient clinic spaces, a new group dining room, day room, and a combination of private and semi-patient rooms.
The overall goal was to create a safe environment for patients and caregivers, but also to create a space that was as aesthetically pleasing as possible. The design team developed the space using earthy tones and warm natural finish color palettes, creating a more inviting healing environment that differs from the traditional spaces normally found in a medical center, hospital, or clinic setting. Planetree principles were incorporated during the design, including the importance of human interaction, the inclusion of opportunities to view nature, natural daylight patterns, and nutrition as it relates to socialization and healing.
