Diverging Diamond Interchange

The interchange at I-96 and Cascade Road in Grand Rapids is one of only two diverging diamond interchanges in Michigan. Considered one of the best innovations of 2009, the diverging diamond interchange is a significant improvement in safety as no left turns are required and movements are discrete, with most controlled by traffic signals. It also improves interchange efficiency and delivers increased traffic flow – an enterprise-level win for MDOT. C2AE coordinated utilities, drainage systems, guardrail and roadway safety, and maintenance of traffic for the new interchange.
